began her work as a director in 2005 with the late night stage production of the popular 70’s sitcom Good Times. She continues this new chapter in her artistic career, working with the cast and crew of No Experience Necessary. Carla made her MPAACT directorial debut with a revival of Addae Moon’s critically acclaimed and BTAA nominated production of She Calls Up The Sun.
Ms. Stillwell has been a performer for three decades. She has appeared in A Piering Daily (Navy Pier), Quilt (Dolphinback Theatre), Missing Angle Juan (Powertap). Carla began working with MPAACT in1997 and made the company her creative home. Her company credits include: Afrosynthesis, Piece Meal Clan, The Inside, Beneath A Dark Sky (1998), Within the Dream, Exoskeletal Blues which featured her one woman show Carla…In Search of My Silky Underthings, Kosi Dasa and Relevant Hearsay…Stories from 57 and Beneath a Dark Sky (2008).
She has also toured with MPAACT throughout the U.S. as an actor and holds the positions Director of Artistic Development/Production Coordinator, and is a Playwright-in-Residence for the company. As a Playwright-in-Residence Carla has developed several critically acclaim works. Most recent among them are The Divine Order Of Becoming (Jefferson Award/BTA Award nominated), and the Blaxploitation series (4 BTA Awards) with co-writers Kevin Douglas and Inda Craig-Galvan.
