William S. Carroll (Bill) studied English near his home town at Norfolk State Univ. and theatre history and literary criticism at the University of Illinois’ Krannert Center for Performing Arts. As a founding member of MPAACT, William has demonstrated his talents in a wide range of endeavors. He has authored and/or collaborated on Restore the Rhythm, Continuum: Visions from Yetunde, and Vital Signs. His work has been four times published in Metadesse: Conversations in Consciousness [1992], and The Alibi Transcripts [2001]. The BlaQ Market [2006] and BlaQ Market Monologues and Scenes [2008]. He has directed Continuum: Visions from Yetunde, Vital Signs [touring production], and Nambi E. Kelley’s Girl to Be Named Later. He has also served as production dramaturg with The Abesha Conspiracy, The Glow of Reflected Light, and Otherworld Lovers. Mr. Carroll William established MPAACT’s storytelling tradition with a set of original works entitled: Tales from the Kitalogo. In doing so he took a time honored family tradition and shared it with the world. He went on to become the first of MPAACT’s master storytellers, and has since collaborated with some of the finest artist’s in the craft. Tales from an Urban Empire [co-written with Larry Nance] was developed in 1998 and was a standing production with MPAACT for two years.
